Summer is Here!

It's certainly started off with a bang. Just as fast as the school bell rang last Thursday, I found myself on a whirlwind of a few days catching some Phish shows. You see, this is what we do. While I've turned in my patchwork clothes for more creative endeavors in my house, and the partying for a little one who dances as well, it's still something that means the world to us! First, we headed to Camden, our local venue, for a few shows.

For the first time in 118 shows, I was lucky enough to score Pit Row 3 tickets! I couldn't nearly believe my eyes when the mail order email came through! I took my best friend down with me, and she was ambitious in jumping seats to ride the rail. Figuring I'd never get the chance again, I went with her! Please note: I did NOT bring my child to this show! Only a nut would bring a baby up there!)

(that's me on the left!)

I spent the entire show rocking out! Freedom and a clear view of the boys was just a special event for me! I got some good pictures too! I suppose I'll enjoy them because I doubt I'll ever get this lucky again!

Then we were off to Columbia Maryland after taking a night off. The whole weekend was magical. Of course, the journey is different than it was when I was 20, but still, it leaves for moments to forget about the outside world, moments to sparkle and glow (literally!), moments to glance at your Beloved and remember what it was always like, and moments to spend with new friends and old.

For now, we settle into summer peacefully. I can't wait to do it all over again in Telluride!

Tomorrow is my last day of school! It's been a rough year. My child has hardly ever slept through the night, I know the best thing would be for me to be home with him, but sometimes you just do what you have to do! I've got two months of fun to look forward to with him! It's going to be a great summer, I know it already!

City Wide Yard Sale - Bordentown

It's a day I look forward to all year. What will my plan of attack be? Take the town by bike! Hit up all the streets! There has to be some gems hidden amongst the junk. I got up early, gathered my bike and two bags for treasures, and headed out alone, leaving my little bean with my husband.

Of course, there are two different kinds of shopping...Patrick shopping and me shopping. I scored some tinker toys for Patrick after I'd given up a batch of these at another yard sale the previous week because $15 for a small bin of them seemed rather outrageous. I'm glad I did! They were only $2.00 for TWO whole bins! Nice when that works out! I also scored him some beach toys, which is good considering Dada already broke one of his shovels this summer playing on the beach by accident!

Then, there is me shopping. I have a penchants for linens, boxes, and bottles. This year certainly didn't let me down!

All the handwork that goes into pieces like the following just amaze me. It makes me really sad that people don't want to pass on these gems to their future generations! I treasure my grandmother's own handkerchiefs and sewing, although much of it was left behind and will probably get sold off some day in a twisted turn of fate out of my control...None the less, I appreciate that I can gather these gems and display them in my home.

As I was on my way home, I spotted this gem. I don't know quite what to put in it yet. Perhaps you have some ideas? What would you keep in a coke box? I really love it though! It's got such charm!

Out of all the summer yardsale finds, this day is the best of the bunch. Over 1 square mile, I can hit up 30 or so yard sales. Old towns hide such gems too! Until next year, I'll be dreaming of new finds!

Bordentown City Farmers Market

Today was finally the day! The Farmers Market made its annual debut here in Bordentown City. When I left work, I was a little sad because it was raining. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the opening was happening as scheduled today after all!

I came home, talked to some friends on FB, and headed up to the market with a raincovered stroller with a Patrick inside!

A few months ago, I made this farmer's market bag from the pattern in Sew Liberated. It's been sitting around waiting on me to use it. I couldn't wait to actually get to try it out. It was an easy pattern to follow. I had picked up some of this cute carrot fabric on etsy and thought it would be PERFECT to line the bag with! The bag worked out better than I'd even imagined when I could fit a fresh baguette through one of the side pulls! See how nicely this works?

While we were there, we got a glance at some alpacas and picked up some rovings!

We also met up with our friend Deirdre and talked about making an upcoming crafty/knitting night here in Bordentown City..so if you are local, and interested, let me know!

We certainly didn't let the rain bring us down today! I can't wait until next week!

Something About the Beach

Something about the beach seems to bring the year full circle. It doesn't really matter that the students have lost it, nor that I have practically lost it by this point. Sitting there, watching the waves roll in, somehow seems to make it all OK.

This is the third summer we'll be taking Patrick to the beach. Of course, I'm sure he doesn't remember last year or the year before (at only WEEKS old), but I'm hoping to instill in him the same love of the shore that I had growing up. It didn't start as well as I'd planned.

His feet didn't seem to leave the blanket. He looked at the ocean in all of it's chaotic glory, and decided to stay far far away from it. You see, my boy is a very cautious one. He likes to have total control over things and as we all well know, the ocean will not be controlled by a little boy!

He was happy to climb all over us. I suppose I have to get used to sandy feet climbing on me while I take in the sun. He was very content to do just that. We did try to venture closer to the water at times, but he clung to us like a little marsupial. Hopefully, in time, he'll realize the water is just the sort of thing to make all your cares wash away.

Strawberries for the Pickin'

We recently ventured out to go strawberry picking. For some reason, we never fit it in last year, so the last time we'd gone was when I was very pregnant! Of course, any new adventure with a toddler brings a certain amount of uncertainty. It's either going to be amazing or just a total nightmare.

This particular farm, Russo's, has rather become our farm. We've gone apple picking there, we buy produce there on occasion, I've even nursed my sweet child in their orchards. Suffice to say, it feels like "home".

As we got to the fields, we headed towards the back, hoping the strawberries would be best in the spot that we picked. Now, Patrick LOVES strawberries. I can't imagine having a limitless amount of strawberries at my disposal if I were a toddler! Once he realized what was going on, he was more than willing to help pick, although he thought we should also be picking leaves ;)

He definitely ate his share of strawberries and waited on our heals as we gave him new ones to devour.

Overall, the whole adventure was a success! Who was I kidding? Kids and farms? Don't we all already know they fit together well?

Asbury Boardwalk

On Friday, we gathered ourselves and headed down to the Asbury Park Boardwalk to listen to my husband and his student teacher play some songs at one of the new sandwich joints. While we were waiting, Patrick and I headed down onto the sand to explore the beach.

I think the waves scared him a bit. He wanted me to hold him almost the entire time we were down there.

His feet were better suited on land, which is fine. When we got back to the boardwalk, we had a visit from the one and only Q! Patrick and Q spent a good amount of time sharing snacks and tricks while the music played.

The night grew cooler as the music went on, but it was good to be back on the boards once again!
