Coming Up This Week!

So much goodness this weekend, I wasn't sure where to start...so perhaps you'll enjoy a glimpse into what I'd like to share this week.

* Looking forward to eating the cat cookies we made via Pinterest

* Savoring the moments of Mickey Mouse, a special request of the little man this year

* Sad that we never made it to a 9 year old's birthday party to celebrate in the American Girl!

* Revel in two months seizure free! Two Months! I can hardly contain myself!

* Baffled at the first snow of the season! Before Halloween!

* Remembering the parade, this year a bit colder than most.

A Wooly Bear Moment

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see. Thanks Amanda for your weekly inspiration!

The Couch ( and the pillows to go with it! )

I hated our couch...really, I did...I despised it so much that I banished the pillow on it to the other room and opted to make pillow covers for the throw pillows in it's place...so last week, that's just what I did!

And then...over the weekend...we got a new couch! And those pillows just so happen to go perfectly with it!

Booties for Two!

Pregnant with twins...I can't even begin to imagine their future, but I can knit for them!

Our friend Jennie is having twins in a few months. In her gorgeous belly is a girl and a boy! One of each! I'm so excited for them!

These little booties are knit from the pattern found here. It's a quick knit, knit flat...I really enjoy knitting this particular pattern so knitting two of them was twice the fun!

Making Memory - The Game!

I mentioned a few weeks ago that Patrick is loving playing games...so I thought it would be fun to make him one!

The project was super easy. I cut out a variety of shapes from different colored felt - two of each - and then I mounted them to corduroy rectangles before sewing them up and finishing them off.

The result? A lot of fun!

What started out as a simple "memory" game has turned into colors, shapes, and even patterns! Patrick loves his new game. We've even thought up a few shapes that I need to add to this particular batch!

The Rhythm of Autumn

The sun starts to change its angle. It's dark by 6:45 these days. If we don't seize the day in the morning, we'll never get to it after nap. The nights are getting cooler. The leaves are crunchy under our feet. Autumn is really in the air.

Knitted Baby Hat for Maura

I'm not the fastest knitter in the world, but I'm getting a bit faster lately! Last week, as I was getting ready to head to knitting (our weekly knitting group! Still going strong!) I picked up this pattern and some hand-me-down wool from Scotland as I had nothing currently on the needles!

Who would have thought I'd knit it up so quickly. A few days later, and Maura was the bearer of a new hat! Boy is she a lucky girl...all this knitting for her!

I was impressed with how nicely it came together, how it spiraled up at the top so pretty, and most of all how darn cute she looks in it!!

A Day on the Farm

On our days together, we try to do things that will enrich Patrick's lives. We seize those days to create new memories for him, and of course, eventually Maura, who rather naps through much of our adventures just yet.

This particular day, we headed to a working farm. It isn't the first time we've taken him to a farm, but this was our first visit to Howell Living History Farm.

The weather was faltering on rain that morning, but we decided to head out anyway. By the time we got there, the sun was bursting through the clouds, making us glad we'd come. We practically had the whole farm to ourselves save for the farmhands! We headed for lunch after the farm, only to drive home in thunderstorms! The day was meant for us!

Phenobarbital No More!

Today marks a milestone for us. Today, Maura got her last dose of phenobarbital. It was slow to come. 6 weeks ago, we were in the midst of our last bout of seizures...I wasn't sure if we'd make it to the last dose. I so confidently posted about it, and then we found ourselves falling into the abyss of more seizures that didn't seem to stop so easily. But we got them under control and stuck to our guns on the phenobarbital. Each week, slowly, we weaned her down dose by dose. Tonight was the last one.

The picture I share today shows two things. The dose on the left is the dose she was receiving twice a day six weeks ago. 2.7 mLs ...The dose on the right is Maura's actual last dose...at .3 mLs...

It will be really bizarre to wake up tomorrow and not give it to her. She's been on it for all but 40 hours of her life! And now, it will no longer be a part of her. Of course, it has a half life, but I know it will be out of her system completely in just a few days...

So what does that mean for her? Hopefully less fuzz in her little head. I can't imagine what she's dealing with...she's a strong little cookie...she works hard. We'll get there in our own time...in the meantime, we do a lot of playing to get there!

Wish us luck as we venture into a new era. Every day, I worry that this is going to be it...the day she has breakthroughs. Each day makes it easier to convince myself. I hope we aren't let down this time!
