Black-Eyed Caroline

So I woke up this morning, and my right eye didn't look right..yup, a shiner..go figure! So now I'm getting ready for work, completely baffled as to how this happened and what could have caused it. Does it hurt? No..Did Joe elbow me? Not particularly possible, as he quickly pointed out, because he sleeps on the left side of the bed and he would have knocked the other eye, not that this has ever happened..

So I go to school..The nurse has a look at it, she thinks it is a sinus infection! So tomorrow, I have to go to the doctor...greeaatt!!

Tis the Season!

So last year, I remember going outside the day after Thanksgiving to find that my neighbor Kelly had completely finished all of her Christmas shopping by 1 oclock or so. I was jealous. To celebrate the holiday season and ride it through without having to beat the clutter at the mall at the last minute hours was completely admirable. So..I decided that I would actually do it this year.

The alarm bursted me out of bed by 7:30 yesterday. I was out the door and on my way by 8 am. I managed to get a good chunk of my shopping done and I too was home by 1 in the afternoon. This left me in quite a festive little mood so I decided to drag all the decorations out of the attic.

My house now looks like Christmas exploded all throughout it. I even wrote out all my Christmas cards! It's a good feeling, you know..I'm excited that I too can ride out the Christmas season and actually ENJOY it this year.

RIP Little Hawk

Today I was out on my daily 2 mile walk through town when I came across the most peculiar thing. I found a sparrow hawk, in the sidewalk, about a mile into my walk. It let me walk right up to it. In fact, it let me pick it up! I knew something was wrong with it, but thanks to a rehabilitated GOOSE over the summer, I knew what to do with it. I wrapped it in my scarf and started walking home. We managed to get in the house, open the attic steps, get a cat carrier down, and settle in before I went to call the Wildlife Refuge. I wasn't downstairs five minutes. When I came back, my poor friend was dead. The hawk died. I don't know what was wrong with it. A volunteer for the center said that it might have had West Nile. None the less, I tried to save it's life. I couldn't leave it on the sidewalk to get hit by a car. I did something. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough :(

Princeton, Dryers, and Newspapers!

The week has found me disgustingly busy around here. Last week, Joe and I headed up to Princeton to catch Mr. Anastasio. Hoping for some kind of nostalgia, we got just what we wanted. Tom came out and played a few tunes with Trey. What an odd feeling to be in the audience at the same venue I saw David Byrne at a year ago, sitting just behind Tom Marshall, who was now on stage. Weird! Overall, I still wasn't Trey Impressed, but the acoustic set always makes up for it and it's always fun to see Kuroda on the lights.

Our dryer arrived on Saturday afternoon. It made me wish I'd decided to buy the washer right then and there. That's ok, we can wait a few months til Spring! The washer will be a welcome (and futuristic) change to our laundry room, the last room to redo, not to mention the upstairs hardwood floors. I also spent two hours repainting the upstairs foyer and back stairwell. I painted it "Baked Scone" to match the two front downstairs rooms that we did this summer. It really pulls the house together nicely.

On top of all this, the school newspaper became my duty this year. I've spent the last few months managing a bulletin board of middle school kids in order to meet a deadline of last Monday for articles. Today, we went to print. Everyone is truly impressed and I can't say enough about my newspaper. Really, it ROCKS! I'm excited for the kids to be a part of a groundbreaking newspaper that I've facilitated.

And we shall have dry clothes!

Our dryer died last week, so today, Joe and I spent our day shopping for a dryer. In the end, we ended up going with the LG Large Capacity, that will eventually match our front loading washer. We stood in the store, trying to figure out what to do..get a plain old dryer or go with something better because in a year we will be well on our way to parentdom. Our biggest dilemma was the concept of matching. Did it matter? Well..we decided it really did matter and that we wanted a better quality product. Now we are set for a front loading washer that we'll get in the spring..
