Something About the Beach
Something about the beach seems to bring the year full circle. It doesn't really matter that the students have lost it, nor that I have practically lost it by this point. Sitting there, watching the waves roll in, somehow seems to make it all OK.
This is the third summer we'll be taking Patrick to the beach. Of course, I'm sure he doesn't remember last year or the year before (at only WEEKS old), but I'm hoping to instill in him the same love of the shore that I had growing up. It didn't start as well as I'd planned.
His feet didn't seem to leave the blanket. He looked at the ocean in all of it's chaotic glory, and decided to stay far far away from it. You see, my boy is a very cautious one. He likes to have total control over things and as we all well know, the ocean will not be controlled by a little boy!
He was happy to climb all over us. I suppose I have to get used to sandy feet climbing on me while I take in the sun. He was very content to do just that. We did try to venture closer to the water at times, but he clung to us like a little marsupial. Hopefully, in time, he'll realize the water is just the sort of thing to make all your cares wash away.
