NICU (and we thought it was just for Phish)
Sorry for the lack of updates, we rather had a rough go of it there for a few days! Patrick stayed at the baby resort (NICU) for an extra day because he was all jaundiced! We were originally slated to come home on Saturday, but his levels were up and the recommended we stay for an extra night. It was the first time I've been taught to put the needs of my child first, and it was heartbreaking, but we stayed. I hoped for the best, but at around 9am on Sunday, we were told he couldn't go home and they needed to put him under the bili lights for 24 hours to bring his bilirubin levels down. I was composed enough to be OK with it. Joe and I could head home, go food shopping, get accessories for the pump the hospital gave me, and just get ready for him. I had to pump every few hours just to stimulate, and it worked, so that's great! We headed back to the hospital on Sunday night for a few hours before heading home to a good nights sleep.
Apparently, I woke up in the morning and flipped out on Joe, Where is he?! Where is my little man?! Why'd you leave him downstairs?! Yep, I missed him alright! I don't even remember this whole incident...we ate breakfast, got ready, and headed back for the duration of the day on Monday..They had to test him in the afternoon, but he was off the lights so I could at LEAST hold him all day long..that's all that mattered! We were told late in the day we could finally take him home! He was ours! Boy, was I relieved!
So here we are, enjoying our baby moon, no visitors, no phone calls, just Joe, Patrick, and I. Snuggling together. Joe's even found some time to play him a tune or two!
